Welcome to Southwest Rural Fire Department

Southwest Fire/Rescue proudly protects more than 10,000 people living in an area of 90 square miles. We operate out of three stations that protect a primarily rural area. We are a publicly-funded, all-volunteer department.

The district was formed in 1962 to provide fire protection to the area of Lancaster County, Nebraska, directly southwest of the city of Lincoln. This includes the incorporated villages of Denton and Sprague as well as the unincorporated villages of Rokeby, Martell, Yankee Hill, and part of Emerald.

Survival Training - Wire Box and Wall Breach
Tuesday, September 13, 2011
-
Southwest Fire and Rescue members practiced in the 'wire coffin' box with full gear, breathing air, and a blacked out facemask.  This teaches you to control your breathing, and how to identify and fix problem areas that like to get hung up.  The wall breach teaches how to partially-remove or fully remove your scba pack so that you can fit through the small opening and get to the other side, all while remaining in contact and never coming off-air.  This task was also performed with a blacked out mask.
