Saturday, May 15, 2010 - Southwest firefighters conducted a controlled house burn for training. Hallam fire dept. also had a few members present. Everyone was divided up into groups and went inside the house 2 at a time to get interior experience while a single room was on fire. After the groups cycled through, a few vent holes were cut and the structure was lit and left to burn the rest of the way down. Southwest and Hallam firefighters deployed 3 attack lines to protect 2 structures - 1 outbuilding approx. 13 feet away and the primary residence less than 45 feet away. After letting it burn the rest of the way down the only thing left standing was the chimney even after the fire fighters gave it their all to knock it down with the attack line. Great job to the Southwest and Hallam firefighters who made this happen in a safe and orderly manor.
